The Pharmacology of the Digitalis Drugs
نویسنده
چکیده
A SUMNIARY of the actions of these drugs involves a survey of well-establishe(d conclusions and a critical examination of contrary opinions. Although experiments which appear to give opposite results are ofteniln fact not comparable because of differences in technique, contradictions sometimes occur when such differences are not apparent; and, in that case, reference to individual papers is hardily possible without reference to all. Completeness of outline is thus prevented by the futility of trying, wvith limited space, to give a fair presentation of evidence in controversial matters.

Background and Purpose: Digitalis species and their cardiac glycosides are used in congestive heart failure (ÇHF) disease. Digitalis nervosa are grown only in the North regions of Ïran. Çardiac glycosides of other species are identified by HPLÇ procedure. Ïn this research, cardiac glycosides of Digitalis nervosa were identified. Materials and Methods: Ïn this research, methanol as solvent ...
متن کاملDigitalis.
Cardiac glycosides have played a prominent role in the therapy of congestive heart failure since William Withering codified their use in his late 18th century monograph on the efficacy of the leaves of the common foxglove plant (Digitalis purpurea). Despite their widespread acceptance into medical practice in the ensuing 200 years, both the efficacy and the safety of this class of drugs continu...
متن کاملUse of digitalis in general practice. Liverpool Therapeutics Group.
A study, which arose out of a general-practitioner teaching programme in clinical pharmacology, was designed to assess the use of digitalis in 391 patients in general practice. Clinical, biochemical, and pharmacological data were used to assess whether digitalis treatment should be discontinued (89 patients; 22.8%); the dose kept unchanged (47; 12%); or the dose increased (47; 12%) or decreased...
متن کاملHerbal medicines today and the roots of modern pharmacology.
The transformation of digitalis from a folk medicine, foxglove, to a modern drug, digoxin, illustrates principles of modern pharmacology that have helped make drugs safer and more effective. Digitalis was improved because its preparation was standardized, first by bioassay and then by chemical methods; however, few of today's herbs are standardized by methods that can ensure a consistent produc...
متن کاملAntiarrhythmic effects of coronary vasodilators on canine ventricular arrhythmia models.
Antiarrhythmic effects of intravenous coronary vasodilators (verapamil, diltiazem, bepridil, trimetazidine and nicorandil) were evaluated using two canine ventricular arrhythmia models (halothane-adrenaline arrhythmia and digitalis arrhythmia), and the minimum effective plasma concentrations of the drugs were determined for each arrhythmia model. Verapamil (0.1 mg/kg), diltiazem (0.1 mg/kg), be...
